Spring Hues

Georgian Bay, 12” x 18”, oil on canvas, 2004

From the Coast To Canvas Project

Inspiration for this painting was not hard to come by. After putting in at Killarney Provincial Park and paddling for a couple of hours east on Georgian Bay, we set up camp near these unique and beautiful Fox Islands. The fact that there is more rock than vegetation on some of these islands seemed to cause the spring colours to contrast even more with the fresh mosses and new leaves. The late afternoon light brought out the bouquet of hues further and drew rich tones from everything it touched.
