19″ × 26″, oil on linen (2016) Admiralty Inlet, Arctic Bay, Nunavut, Canada
From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project
I was losing track of time. Five and a half weeks into my expedition, I had experienced the sun setting at all times during the evening, and sometimes not at all.
Hiking the shores of Admiralty Inlet to the north of Arctic Bay, I found this elevated view. Here, I sat at my easel, enveloped by the splendour of the Arctic light. My heart raced as I struggled to capture the wonder of it until the sun finally set… at 1 a.m.
