Tombstone Valley

22″ × 47″, oil on linen (2009) Off the Dempster Highway, Yukon, Canada

From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project

My family and I had been driving across Canada for almost a month on our way to the western Arctic. Turning onto the dirt surface of the Dempster Highway, we felt a shift in our journey as we entered an untamed landscape. Mountains, valleys, and wild rivers greeted us at every turn. It was time to pull over and explore. Leaving the rv behind, we hiked into the lush tundra and the solitude of this expansive landscape.
