12″ × 13″, oil on linen (2012) Auyuittuq National Park, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada
From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project
I found this upstanding rock while wandering around in a section of Auyuittuq National Park called, aptly enough, the “Rock Garden.” I stopped to study it briefly and pressed on, only to find myself back in the same spot later. I liked its slightly off-kilter stance and the arctic cottons below doing their best to stand tall in the wet environment. I finally gave in to the urge I was feeling and ran back for my easel.
