9.5″ × 16″, oil on linen (2010) Coronation Fiord, Auyuittuq National Park, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada
From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project
Coronation Glacier is an impressive sight to behold when viewed in its entirety. I tried to capture that perspective in my Great Glacier painting. But Coronation is equally beautiful upon closer inspection. Boating along its face, I studied countless forms of ice, varied through compression and the forces of nature, and found this arch at its north end. It looked almost ready to collapse, so I hurried with my paints to capture this ephemeral scene.
