12″ × 13″, oil on linen (2012) Tanquary Fiord, Quttinirpaaq National Park, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada
From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project
It’s a special time in the High Arctic when ice gives way to open water during the short summer season. I was fortunate to be on the shores of Tanquary Fiord to watch this change take place before my very eyes. In the distance a river flowed down a mountain, a silver thread connecting the faraway glacier to the ice before me, echoing the fragile balance of this yearly ritual.
