Beach Cabin

8″ × 16”, oil on linen (2019) Guys Bight, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada

From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project

Grey skies surrounded us as the Zodiac bounced its way toward the shore. Through the fog I could see a few cabins dotted along a beach that has been used by the Inuit for generations. On this damp day, I could imagine the comfort these shelters offered against the elements. Looking back toward the ocean, I saw the mountain and its glacier being revealed as the breaking light kissed the sea. The scene and its story were just waiting to be painted.
