8″ × 16″, oil on linen (2012) Akshayuk Pass, Auyuittuq National Park, Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada
From the INTO THE ARCTIC Project
During a month-long painting expedition to Baffin Island, I came across this cabin-sized boulder. Flanking each side of it were dramatic Arctic views. On one side, a glacier wrapped its way down the mountain, and on the other stood Thor Peak. It struck me as a compelling and unusual composition, and gave me a chance to honour this massive boulder that earlier had offered me shelter from the elements.
