5” x 9”, oil on linen (2005) Caledon, Ontario, Canada
Farms are an integral part of Caledon’s past and present. In my 23 years of living here, I have seen pressures brought upon this way of life as farms are being turned into subdivisions along the south edge of the region. It is a difficult balance to strike when never-ending urban sprawl makes its way into the countryside. I pray that our leaders will have wisdom enough to stand firm and make decisions with my children’s future in mind. In the meantime, I hope this painting of the barn just around the corner from me doesn’t become another historical reference of the way things were.
