28″ x 49″, oil on linen (2015) Lowell Lake, Kluane National Park, Yukon, Canada
From the TrueWild: Kluane Project
A month in the Yukon wild was coming to an end when we pulled the raft up onto the shores of Lowell Lake. Having just experienced Kluane National Park’s wondrous ice fields, hiked it’s rugged land, and canoed it’s back lakes, I was feeling rather satisfied. Little did I know of the wonders that lay ahead when the heavens lit up, and the scene before me transformed from darkness into an ethereal and otherworldly scene of icebergs, mountains and glaciers lit up by the magical greenish glow of the Aurora Borealis. I absorbed the experience until 3am, letting it etch into my mind.
